Three weeks into the summer and the stories keep flowing from our staff. This week, we’d like to share with you a story of one of our ranchers, Ben (we’ll call him Ben for confidentiality sake).
Ben started the week off on a wrong foot and was consistently getting into arguments, starting fights, and just not getting along with anyone. One of our team leaders really took him under his wing and pursued a friendship with him. He set action steps for him to be successful during the week and turn things around. It was a complete 180. Ben went from fighting and arguing to stepping up caring for those around him and stepping up during activities to lead his team. At the end of the week, his team leader even had a conversation with him about what it would look like for him to join our young leaders’ program when he is a bit older.
Ben’s story is like so many – students that have set a pattern in their life to act out when things don’t go their way and to get attention through misbehaving. It just goes to show that through mentorship, our youth can take steps towards a better future. Wildwood is a place where our youth can learn valuable leadership skills in an environment where they can try and fail and be coached along the way with team leaders who are eager to celebrate the wins.
We challenge you to be a “good-finder” today and encourage someone in your life to reach their full potential.
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 15:5-6 (NIV)
